Meet Jess

Jess Rigby is a proud Gamilaraay, Bigambul and Torres Strait Islander woman, born and raised on Yuwi Country in Slade Point, Mackay.

Art has been part of Jess’s life from a young age. What began as time spent painting with her mother grew into something much deeper, becoming a way to stay connected to family, story, and culture. After losing her mother in April 2025, Jess made it her personal goal to carry forward the knowledge, creativity, and storytelling passed down to her, and to share that with the next generation.

Her work is deeply shaped by the place she comes from and the life she has lived. Growing up surrounded by the ocean, bushland, creeks, and beach at Slade Point gave Jess a strong connection to Country, nature, and community. These experiences continue to influence her art and the stories behind each piece.

Jess began sharing her artwork more widely in 2022, and since then her journey has continued to grow. She has completed commissions in her hometown of Mackay and has sold pieces across Australia and internationally, including to Germany, the United Kingdom, America, New Zealand, and Japan.

For Jess, art is more than painting. It is a way to honour her mother, share family stories, express identity, and create something meaningful that connects with others.
